What Medieval Artists Were Probably Thinking

Most medieval art from the Western world covers a vast amount of time and places, more than 1000 years of art in Europe, and occasionally the Middle East and North Africa. It includes several major art movements and periods, national and regional art, genres, revivals, the artists crafts, and the artists themselves.

This short lesson in history covers mostly religious art from Europe (predominately Christian). A thousand years later, modern day internet historians have uncovered new meaning from these long forgotten works of art.  It’s like the Divinci Code for Meme Interpretation.
